Funding increases come at no additional cost to taxpayers

State Rep. Steve Frisbie announced today that his home community of Calhoun County would receive a substantial road funding increase – more than double – under his road funding plan that was approved by the state House last week.

“One of the top issues local residents have brought to me is our unsafe and abysmal roads,” Frisbie said. “My plan averts Lansing crisis funding, where tax revenues have been mismanaged, and time and again demanded more money from small businesses to cover its mistakes.”

House Bills 4180-87 and 4230would invest a total of $3.1 billion into Michigan roads by ending corporate welfare, cutting pork project spending, and dedicating all gas taxes to road repairs. The plan also focuses on local roads, which the road debt taken on by Gov. Whitmer neglected, leaving municipalities high and dry as they face unaffordable pothole repairs.

“The most important part of our plan is the creation of the Local Road Fund, which prioritizes the roads and bridges in our cities and rural communities that have been forgotten.,” Frisbie said.

Calhoun County would receive $34 million in road funding, up 107% from the $16.4 million it received last year. Those increases would also impact township roads, which are funded by county road commissions. The cities of Albion, Battle Creek and Springfield would all receive even greater road funding increases – about 150% each. An image is provided with this press release to reflect the exact figures for each.

“I was elected to fix the roads as a Calhoun County commissioner, and now as state representative, and that’s exactly what I’m doing,” Frisbie said. “I’ve heard from the people of my community loud and clear. That’s why my plan entails zero bonds, zero tax increases. Just better roads.”

Frisbie’s plan now awaits consideration from the state Senate.
