Rep. Borton: House falls into chaos under Democrat leadership

Contact: Ken Borton

Rep. Ken Borton, R-Gaylord, released a statement today after House Democrats failed to pass anything on a day they scheduled three votes. With a 54-54 partisan split, the House has been unable to pass legislation while Democrats refuse to negotiate with Republicans.

“Sometimes in this job I really have to remind myself that it’s impossible to help people who don’t want to help themselves. Democrats have zero interest in helping themselves, or the people of Michigan right now. All they have to do is walk across the aisle and negotiate if they’re truly interested in putting people first and making things better. But instead, they’re still grasping to the convoluted idea that they have complete control.

“They need a single Republican vote, a lifeline, to pass anything. We’ve been clear about meaningful, non-partisan legislation the Republican caucus would support while the House is split. Yet, instead of grasping onto the lifeline and allowing us to pull them out of the pit they’ve dug themselves into, they’re content to pout and complain about how we’re not being nice enough while trying to pull them out.”
